In addition to the warm and friendly welcome you will receive at the
Central church of Christ, you will find a place where the pure Gospel of
Christ is preached, where a dedicated body of people assembles to worship,
and where souls are devoted to the Lord and His Word.
 Our primary plea is
the same plea Jesus made: For religious unity among all believers (John
17:20, 21). And our belief is that unity can only be found in the Bible.
In a divided religious world it is the only possible common denominator
upon which all of the God-fearing people of the land can unite. This is an
appeal to go back to the Bible. It is a plea to speak where the Bible
speaks and to remain silent where the Bible is silent in all matters that
pertain to religion.
The church of Christ dates back to the days of the New Testament (Romans
16:16). It was founded by Christ on the day of Pentecost, A.D. 33 (Acts
2), just fifty days after His crucifixion. In the years that followed the
church of Christ grew rapidly to fill Jerusalem, then Judea, Samaria and
finally the whole earth (Acts 1:8; Colossians 1:23). The church of Christ
is noted for its emphasis upon returning to New Testament Christianity and
for its desire to unite all Christians into one body (I Corinthians 1:10).
We believe that it is possible to have religious unity in a day of
division by simply following the New Testament pattern and putting
aside
human teachings and traditions. We believe that the New Testament is the
only rule for faith and practice (II Timothy 3:17; I Peter 4:11), and that
the New Testament scriptures must authorize all that is done in Christian
worship (Colossians 3:17). For this reason, only a cappella music is used
in worship assemblies and the Lord's Supper is observed every Sunday. Thus
we try to closely follow the New Testament avoiding all creeds and
doctrines conceived by man.
Attempting to imitate the New Testament way, we are
undenominational and have no central headquarters or president. The head
of the church is none other than Jesus Christ Himself (Ephesians
1:22-23). Each congregation is autonomous (self-governing), just as in
New Testament days and it is the Word of God that unites us into One Faith
(Ephesians 4:3-6). We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and his holy
Apostles, and not the teachings of man. We are Christians only!
We believe and teach what the Bible says about
salvation: That sinners are saved by faith, repentance, confession, and
baptism because of God’s amazing Grace (John 3:16; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38;
Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-10). The church of Christ is
organized with elders, deacons, preachers, and members (Philippians 1:1).
We emphasize simple, but sincere worship in spirit and in truth (John
4:24). We teach every-member evangelism (Acts 8:4), Godly living (Titus
2:11, 12), love for each other (John 13:34, 35), and helping those in need
(James 1:27).
To put it simply, the church of Christ is seeking to
be the same church you read about in the New Testament.
We aim to
restore its doctrine, its practice, its lifestyle, and its zeal.
