December 17th 2007: We recently started two new classes with our church family in Gorlovka. The first is an adult class that meets on Wednesday night. The attendance has been good with around fifteen people coming each week. Lora served chili last week and everyone enjoyed both the meal and the time of study, prayer and fellowship. The second class is for children from around ten to fourteen years old. (4th through 8th grade). Sunday afternoon we had 16 kids attend the class. Some of them are also attending the worship assembly on Sunday.
Mark and Courtney are visiting in Gorlovka while they are adopting children from a nearby city. More about their story soon.

NAME: Dr. Demar Elam
LOCATION: See his Open Door Ministry Site
FAMILY: Dixie (wife)

After graduating from Vigor High School (Prichard, AL) in 1963 Dr. Demar Elam began a life-long quest to "Go ye into the world, and preach the gospel to every creature". Since 1990 Dr. Elam has been the Director of the Open Door Ministry and is also the Director of Mission Studies at Amridge University in Montgomery, AL

Dr. Elam has preached the gospel in 41 countries of the world. He served as a missionary to New Zealand for four yeas, and he and his wife, Dixie, continue to plant new congregations in that country.

God has blessed the Open Door Ministry with the establishment of 99 new congregations, and more than 10,000 souls have been baptized into Christ.  Demar believes in, and works on the premise of "the Pauline method" of evangelism -- going into new fields, establishing congregations, and them encouraging them to function on their own... going back and visiting on a regular basis to strengthen and teach.  That's the biblical example, and it continues to work today in many places!

Demar is the newly-appointed president of Philippine Theological College, where training Filipino men to preach the gospel is the purpose.  The goal is not only that theses men will teach their own people, but also that when God opens the door to China, these men will be trained and ready to go in and preach the gospel.

Please visit Demar's web site for news and updates about the Open Door Ministry.

FAMILY:
Trina (wife) Todd, Lindsey, Abigail, Heather, Candace, Stuart, Tyler, Matthew

The Gee family consists of Jimmy, Trina and our eight children.  Todd  is our oldest, followed by twins, Lindsey and Abigail, Heather, Candace, and our youngest, Stuart, and two adopted Tanzania children Tyler and Matthew.  Our family learned of the TZ 2000 work years ago when Jimmy met Cy Stafford at a yearly “Polishing the Pulpit” workshop.  We began receiving the monthly newsletter and read with interest concerning the exciting and fruitful work being done in Tanzania, East Africa.  In 2001, we moved to Arusha, Tanzania to join the dedicated and hard-working TZ 2000 team in order to “train Africans to teach Africans.”  After a year, we returned to the states and added another child (Stuart) to our family.  Two years later we began preparations to return to Africa to resume our work.  Arriving in February 2005, we have begun our five-year commitment to work to spread the Gospel to East Africa. Jimmy, Dean of Academics and an Instructor at the Andrew Connelly School of Preaching, also regularly preaches, teaches Bible classes and works in any other capacity to help advance the cause of Christ.

Christ is Central to our Faith
"We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints; because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel..."
